So, from having no cables at all on the East coast of Africa, it looks like we (might) have: [Planned / actual capacity and operational date in (brackets)] -
1 EASSy - perhaps renamed to "NEPAD ICT Broadband Infrastructure Network for Eastern and Southern Africa" (NBIN), or words to that effect (320 Gbps - 2008) 2 TEAMS (? - 2008/2010?) 3 SEACOM (1,280 Gbps - 2009) 4 Flag Telecom (?)

On the West coast, we have: -
1 SAT2 (560 Mbps - 1993)

It seems that people are finally sitting up and taking notice of the need -
and commercial demand - for international IP connectivity in Africa.
